"From the first time I visited Critchill Court to look around I was shown kindness and understanding.. Mum and I were welcomed at an assessment meeting before she moved in and we were able to list our hopes for her time there.. I was always kept informed of developments in her medical condition and had regular meetings with her keyworkers and team leaders.. I too felt well supported by staff as Mum’s dementia progressed and communicating with her became more difficult.. The care home was also my second home and I was always welcomed.. At times when she was particularly unwell and I spent many hours sitting with her the staff also looked after me.. Their kindness will stay with me always.. At a time in our lives when  ...   includes palliative care, and focuses on managing the symptoms and relieving pain, to keep the person comfortable.. Many of our Homes excel in this type of care, and our staff are specially trained to give the best possible support.. Nursing Care.. Some of our Homes also offer nursing care.. This means that they can provide 24 hour care and support from qualified nurses, and can provide more intensive help either short-term (perhaps after you've been in hospital), or for a longer period.. Residential Care.. Our care and support workers are there to provide support with personal care (help with washing, medication etc.. ) and we have activity co-ordinators who ensure that there is always something going on.. All of our Homes can offer a supportive environment to people suffering from dementia and our staff have had specialist training in that area.. Respite Care.. Respite Care is a type of short-term care.. Our Homes can provide short-term care for people on a temporary basis who have been ill or may be leaving hospital but not yet able to return home.. Alternatively, respite care can be used to give informal carers, such as family members or friends, a bit of a break as it is vital that carers are able to take regular breaks and have time to themselves.. Specialised Dementia (Petals) Wing.. Many of our Homes have a dedicated, dementia area with our specialist PETALS service for which we have received national awards and recognition.. PETALS means: Person-Centred, Empowerment, Trust, Activities, Life History and Stimulation..     Descriptive info: National Care Home Open Day 2014.. Somerset Care is delighted to be taking part in the second National Care Home Open Day.. This is an annual event that started in 2013 and was a huge success, with care homes all over the country opening their doors to their local communities.. June 20th, sees many care homes welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that will help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.. Come along and take part in the activities in the homes and join the friendly, caring staff and the residents for a coffee.. Here's a list of what our care homes have planned for the day:.. Burnworthy House (South Petherton).. Coffee morning from 10.. 30am - 12.. 15pm, with a visit from the local school children at 2.. 00pm.. Calway House (Taunton).. Coffee morning from 11.. 00am.. Carrington House (Wincanton).. Open afternoon with cream teas from 2.. Cary Brook (Castle Cary).. Musical entertainment with refreshments at 3.. 00pm, followed by a cheese and wine evening at 6.. Critchill Court (Frome).. Tea party with cakes, refreshments and a raffle starting at 12.. Croft House (Williton).. Musical morning starting at 10.. 30am, with a display of artwork created by the residents, the local school children will also be there to sing with the residents.. Field House (Shepton Mallet)..
